Migrating from self-hosted instance to Plane Cloud

Last updated: June 25, 2026

First, create your Cloud account. Your new workspace will automatically start with a 14-day Business trial, giving you full access to all features while you migrate.

Migration options

DIY migration

You can handle the migration yourself in two parts:

  1. Work items: Export your work items as CSV from your self-hosted instance, then use our CSV importer to bring them into Cloud. This transfers your work items and core fields like title, description, status, and assignees.

  2. Everything else: For modules, cycles, and other data, use our API endpoints and the MCP Server to migrate programmatically.

Note: The CSV method only migrates work items - you'll need the API for complete migration.

Before you start: Make sure all your users are already invited to the Cloud workspace and have accepted their invites.

The general flow is — export each resource from your self-hosted instance using GET requests, then recreate them on Cloud using POST requests.

The order matters:

  • Set up projects first

  • Then states and labels

  • Add members to each project

  • Then migrate work items

  • Modules and cycles come after work items since you'll need the new work item IDs

  • Pages, Intake work items, and other data can be done last
