GitHub issues and PRs not syncing in Plane
Last updated: July 3, 2026
If issues or PRs aren't showing up, or changes in Plane aren't going back to GitHub, work through these in order.
Note: This guide covers the GitHub integration. The GitLab and Bitbucket integrations work in a very similar way, so these steps apply to those too.
Step 1: Check your GitHub org is still connected
Go to Workspace Settings → Integrations → GitHub and confirm it shows as connected. If not, click Connect and reinstall the GitHub App on your org.
Step 2: Check your project sync mapping
Go to Workspace Settings → Integrations → GitHub → Project Issue Sync and verify:
The right Plane project and GitHub repo are mapped together
Issue states are mapped (e.g. Open → Todo, Closed → Done)
Sync direction is correct — if you need Plane → GitHub, set it to Bidirectional
Unidirectional only runs GitHub → Plane. Anything you change in Plane won't go back.
Step 3: Check the label is applied
Sync is label-triggered, not automatic.
GitHub → Plane: add the
planelabel in GitHubPlane → GitHub: add the
gitHublabel in Plane
Sync kicks off within seconds. Plane will comment on the GitHub issue with a link to the work item.
Step 4: Check your PR reference format
[WEB-344]with brackets → links and triggers state automationWEB-344without brackets → links only, no state changes
Also make sure Pull Request State Mapping is configured in Workspace Settings.
Step 5: Comments showing as "Plane GitHub App"?
Your personal GitHub account isn't connected yet.
Admins: Workspace Settings → Integrations → GitHub → Connect personal account
Everyone else: Workspace Settings → Connections
